Band Bio
The collaboration between Meg (singer / songwriter Meghan McRae) and The Freeloaders (guitarist Dave Friedlander, bassist Jim Feek and drummer Marc Fox) began when Meg suggested to Dave that they play an open mic night together in early 2018.
The pair had been long time friends since playing in bands in the burgeoning music scene of Durban, South Africa in the mid 1990s – Meg fronting rock band Caffeine Substitute and Dave playing in hardcore alternative rock act Blind.
It didn’t take long before plans were made to put a full band together. Enter bassist Jim Feek, also an original member of Caffeine Substitute (and various other Durban bands in the 90’s) and drummer Marc Fox, who had played with Dave in heavy melodic rock/metal band Below The Line (UK).
In October 2018 Meg & The Freeloaders entered the studio to record five tracks that showcase the diversity of their melodic indie rock, from the acoustic, folk tinged “Galaxies” to the quirky pop of “Digital Rendezvous” and the driving rock of “Tame”.
2019 sees the band gigging wherever and whenever they can, so keep an eye out on their various online platforms to see where they are gigging next!
